October 14, 2018 – Rev. Dr. Martha Campbell
Following the Westminster Chimes we hear Dr. Imre Szilas playing the Prelude: Introduction and Prayer (from Suite Gothique) by Leon Boellman.
Norm Haynes leads the congregation in the Prayer for Illumination and then reads Mark 10:17-27.
Rev. Dr. Twining Campbell prays with the congregation for the Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer.
The Choir sings the Anthem: Lead Me Savior written by Imre Szilas and accompanied by the Westminster Trio (Imre Szilas – piano, Bowie Bossendorfer – drums, and Twining Campbell – bass guitar).
Rev. Dr. Martha Campbell preaches the sermon based on the Rich, young ruler in the gospel lesson. Martha observes that we’re all invited to follow Jesus. We can respond by going away “shocked” and “grieving,” like the rich, young ruler or we can follow relieved and rejoicing. The way to follow relieved and rejoicing is to remember: there is a deadline and there is a cost. But it doesn’t just come to us we have to choose to rise and follow.
The service concludes with Rev. Dr. Martha Campbell giving the Charge and Benediction followed by Dr. Imre Szilas play the Postlude: Toccata by Leon Boellmann.
