December 23, 2018 – Fourth in Advent – Service of Lessons & Carol

Following the Westminster Chimes the congregation joins in singing: Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Might Gates  – stanza 3, accompanied by Dr. Imre Szilas, organ and Zak Graff, trumpet.

The children’s choir sings Angels We Have Heard on High with Braden Fung and Ian Paddock as soloists.

Rev. Dr. Martha Campbell leads the congregation in prayer.

The Service of Lessons & Carols – nine lessons foretelling and about Christ’s birth are read by members of the congregation and then a Christmas or Advent Carol is sung.

First Lessson: Micah 5:2-5 read by Julie Haynes followed by O Little Town of Bethlehem.

Second Lessson: Isaiah 9:2-7 read by Vickie Fung followed by O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.

Third Lessson: Isaiah 11:1-9 read by Sharleen Piereson followed by Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus.

Fourth Lessson: Isaiah 40:1-5 read by Riley Paddock followed by Go0d Christian Friends, Rejoice.

Fifth Lessson: Luke 1:26-38 read by Deborah Owens followed by Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.

Sixth Lessson: Luke 2:1-7 read by Norm Haynes followed by Silent Night, Holy Night.

Seventh Lessson: Luke 2:8-16 read by Dustin Paddock followed by Jesus, Jesus  – sung by the Childrens Choir and
accompanied by the Westminster Trio (Imre Szilas-piano, Bowie Bossendorfer– drums, Twining Campbell- bass guitar).

Eighth Lessson: Matthew 2:1-11 read by Nina Paddock followed by We Three Kings of Orient Are.

Ninth Lessson: John 1:1-4 read by Helen Darsie followed by Joy to the World! – the first two verses were sung by the
            Children’s Choir with solos by Braden Fung and Ian Paddock then everyone sang the last stanza together.

Rev. Dr. Twining Campbell closes the Service of Lessons & Carols with prayer followed by the Charge and Benediction.

The Postlude, March of the Three Kings by Georges Bizet, is played by Dr. Imre Szilas.
