February 18, 2018 – The First Sunday in Lent – Lent: A Practice of Preparation
We celebrate the first Sunday in the Season of Lent (a time to prepare for Holy Week and Easter) by beginning a new series: Lent: A Practice of Preparation using the sixfold charge: Live simply, love generously, serve faithfully, speak truthfully, pray daily and leave everything else up to God.
Following the Westminster Chimes Andrew Lee leads the congregation in prayer and then reads the scripture lesson: Philippians 4:1-20 followed by Rev. Dr. Martha Campbell leading the congregation in the prayers of the people.
The anthem is – The Gospel Train–arranged by Imre Szilas. The song features Norm Haynes as soloist and the choir accompanied by the Trio: Imre Szilas on piano, Bowie Bossendorfer on the drums and Twining Campbell playing bass guitar.
The sermon is by Rev. Dr. Twining Campbell and the Lenten series begins with: Live Simply using the experiences of the Apostle Paul and our need to learn to live simply.
The service concludes with Imre Szilas playing “Prelude and Fugue in D minor” by Louis Lefeburé-Wély as our Postlude.
