December 3, 2017 – The First Sunday In Advent – Simply Christmas- The Seedling of Hope
Following the Westminster Chimes Andrew Lee and his daughter, Parker, give the Call to Worship and light the first Advent Candle.
Following the Call to Worship, is a portion of “What Child Is This?”, with Dr. Imre Szilas on piano, Bowie Bossendorfer on drums and Twining Campbell on bass guitar.
Candace Bossendorfer thanks the congregation for prayers then leads us in prayer and reads the lesson for the day Isaiah 11:1-9.
Rev. Dr. Twining Campbell talked about Simply Christmas – the Seedling of Hope. Following some of the history of Advent, Twining helps us see that although thanksgiving always looks to the past and present it nourishes hope, which always looks to the future. People who are not grateful tend not to be very hopeful. The church, our church, is responsible for nurturing the seedling of hope with gratitude in hard and difficult times to be a source of hope for our congregation, our community, our country and the world.
Rev. Dr. Martha Campbell offers the Prayers of the People, following another portion of “What Child Is This?”
After the conclusion of “What Child Is This?” and the benediction the service concludes with Dr. Imre Szilas playing the Postlude: “Come Now, Divine Messiah” by Cesar Franck.
